Our Commitment to Inclusivity

The recent events associated with the senseless death of George Floyd have captured the attention of an entire nation. The outcry for change has refueled the ongoing journey for civil rights in America.

As the second oldest existing federal credit union in the United States, New Orleans Firemen’s Federal Credit Union is deeply committed to its founding principles of, “People Helping People.”

The words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. best summarize the viewpoint of our credit union and the sentiments of an entire movement focused on equality. “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

In order to live in a society that is inclusive, diverse, and promotes equity, we have to come together and face the reality that racism and prejudice exist.

Once we address this and deal with the pain together, we can progress in creating an America that has truly learned from its past. This is not a political issue, but an issue of humanity. Our differences are a source of strength and our evolution as a country and as a people depend on how we treat our fellow humans.

At New Orleans Firemen's Federal Credit Union, we are guided by our moral compass. We will continue to stand on the side of right until all people – regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or other personal characteristics– can fully enjoy the truths, promises, and inalienable rights on which the United States was founded.

“The time is always right to do the right thing.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
