Scholarship Program


The Reaching New Heights Education Grant program is designed to encourage our young credit union members on the climb toward being the leaders of tomorrow. The Firemen’s Federal Credit Union will provide nine of our student members the opportunity to be awarded a $1,000 grant for tuition made payable to the school of choice for the 2018 Fall Semester. One grant will be awarded to a student member from each of the following eligible branches: Metairie, Slidell, Westbank (New Orleans), St. James, Mandeville, Picayune, Lockport, Mid-City (New Orleans), and Bogalusa.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible to enter the Reaching New Heights Education grant program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

a.  Applicants must be either a full time high school senior or a college freshman at the time of application submission.
b.  Applicants must submit all required attachments:

  1. Copy of high school or college transcripts with class rank and/or grade point average
  2. Two (2) letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a teacher or school administrator. Each letter must have the reference’s name, address and phone number. Reference must include the length of time the reference has known the applicant and in which context.
  3. Completed application.
  4. Essay answers.

c.   Applicants must be a primary member of NOFFCU.
d.  NOFFCU employees or their immediate family members are not eligible.
e.  Limit one grant per member. Prior year grant recipients are not eligible to reapply.

Please type or print neatly. If more space is required, attach a separate piece of paper.

Answer the three essay questions listed below.
Each answer should be limited to 200 words or less.

The Essay Questions Are:

  1.  What are your career goals and what steps do you plan to take to achieve them?
  2. If you were hired to help the Credit Union reach out to young adults and teens, what recommendations would you make?
  3. In your opinion, what services and products could be added or changed to better serve young adults and teens?

Include all required attachments.
Any  application  packet  received  without  all  required  attachments  will be disqualified.

Send all materials postmarked on or before March 31, 2018.
Entries postmarked after this date will be ineligible. The selected applicant will be notified by April 20, 2018.
